Notes from this Interview

Create Individual Accounts

  • Doing this first saves a lot of time and frustration.
  • Save user name / passwords in one place

LinkedIn content to Facebook (Professional to Personal)

  • Use an Application found in Facebook Applications
  • Applications > Find More > Search Applications “LinkedIn”
  • Consider what you want to share, how you want to share it
  • In my strategy, I just want a visible icon that friends can get to my professional information easily. I’m not pushing too hard (based on my sales strategy and goals)
  • Options include a graphical link to your profile, vies and sharing LinkedIn contacts, LinkedIn Q&A (good way to demonstrate professional knowledge), and more.

LinkedIn content to Twitter (Professional to Personal OR Professional)

  • Doesn’t happen.
  • If you want to share content from LinkedIn you must manually transfer (not a big deal – 140 characters, use TinyURL links)
  • Share status updates, share polls, share new contacts with messages, share group activity (recruit cross-media), share discussions – share smart (quid pro quo / WIIFM / Why do I care?)

Facebook content to LinkedIn (Personal to Professional)

  • Doesn’t happen.
  • Ask yourself, what do I want to share from my personal world and why?
  • Use status update, and a new section “Personal Information” to communicate personal information.
  • No workaround.

Facebook content to Twitter (Professional to Business OR Professional)

  • Use an Application found in Facebook Applications
  • Applications > Find More > Search Applications “Twitter”
  • Twitter (by Twitter), Selective Tweet Status, Twitter Updated (Each does something a little different – read to learn which is best for your communication strategy).
  • Select the application and follow the steps as it indicates (click on application, provide user / pass to verify access, use as directed)
  • In my strategy, I use Twitter for professional communications. I also find Twitter a lot of maintenance, so 2x would be a big commitment.

Twitter content to LinkedIn (Personal OR Professional to Professional)

  • Doesn’t happen.
  • Use status updates (same thing, kinda); show up on profile IF someone is looking, included in status email updates (better success than email, opt-in, clears spam filters / firewalls (if allowed) and junk folders)
  • Workaround: Feed Twitter to your blog (WordPress) then use the WordPress application to update your LinkedIn Profile (still only seen if profile is visited).

Twitter content to Facebook (Personal OR Professional to Personal)

  • Use an Application found in Facebook Applications
  • Applications > Find More > Search Applications “Twitter”
  • Twitter (by Twitter), Selective Tweet Status, Twitter Updated (Each does something a little different – read to learn which is best for your communication strategy).
  • Select the application and follow the steps as it indicates (click on application, provide user / pass to verify access, use as directed)

How to Drive Traffic to the Sites

  • Build a great satellite: username, bio, image, link, description
  • Link everything to everything to maximize exposure as well as contributions, and content generated
  • Listen, learn at each community – For Twitter, I like a book by one of my colleagues, Rodney Rumford. It’s called, “Twitter as a Business Tool” and you can find it and related content to improve your business use of Twitter at TwitterBusinessBook.com
  • Participate; connections, friends and groups (key – you’re in front of a lot of people that you’re targeting, what do you do in off line to impress / impact groups?)
  • Contribute: add to conversations, provide links, answer questions – this is your moment to shine in a positive light)
  • Bring value: its not about you – its about the community, the focus, the “spirit” of the law
  • Be relevant; stay on topic, don’t force a conversation to go your way, read as self-serving and is dealt with as such
